Talented Danish artist Johan Laurentz Jensen (8 March 1800 – 26 March 1856) specialized in painting flowers. His floral arrangements have decorative and symbolic value. Flowers bouquets by Jensen are usually located in a vase standing on a tray. Dark neutral background helped to emphasize the colorful tones. Roses were often the main subject, sometimes depicted with other exotic flowers and fruits, sometimes even birds. Jensen mastered the art of transmitting the beauty of nature. His paintings are characterized by richness in color and variety. Some of them depict flowers lying on a table or in a basket, perhaps strung together in a wreath.
