Born 11 May 1992 in Vilnius, Lithuania, young and talented self-taught artist Monica Sasnauskaite studies at the Institute of Molecular Biology. Monika loves nature, fantasy and science fiction, so she combines realistic objects with surreal details. “I like to use colored and graphite pencils, pens and pastels”, says she.
According to Monica, she is still uncertain what career she should choose – a biologist, or an artist. Noteworthy, Monica started drawing only 7 years ago, when she first saw realistic pencil drawings on the net. Inspired by pencil art of other artists, she started learning the technique of drawing and has achieved much progress in it. Thus, 22-year-old self-taught artist Monica Jasnauskaite has won several awards at the international art competitions. In particular, Colorful Dream, 2011, Poland; Hear the secret language of nature, 2011, Lithuania; Fantasy Garden, 2010, London; Child and dog, 2010, Poland; and Sports Figures, 2010, Lithuania.

According to the artist, she uses cheap graphite pencils – “the ones you can find in a supermarket”. She explains: “I guess the most important thing is a core, I enjoy using soft and gently cores’. My fav coulored pencils are Derwent, however, they are pretty expensive. Also, I like Giotto – in fact, a brilliant composition of quality and price”.
