Chicago born self-taught artist and writer Edward Gorey was one of the most important figures in contemporary art. His black-and-white style illustrations decorated editions of such eminent writers as Edgar Allan Poe, HG Wells, TS Eliot, Samuel Beckett and John Updike. Noteworthy, Gorey was very fond of cats and even bequeathed his multi-million dollar state to the Animal Rights Society. Surprisingly, despite the artist’s love for cats, he portrayed them not very often. And if he did, it was only in anthropomorphic style, often in the form of dancers. Meanwhile, his dancing cats has become the real inspiration for jewelers. According to the artists, “Cats, like a ballerinas, extremely elegant, so I like to draw them dancing.”

After graduation from the institute, Nick Fedaev worked as an artist, musician and composer. Then he moved to Auckland, New Zealand, where he lives and works now. According to the artist, he finds the inspiration from various sources – his dreams, life and people, surrounding him. Also, paintings of the Old Masters of the Renaissance, Da Vinci, Dali, Bosch and Picasso. Meanwhile, he admires not only their brilliant paintings, but also their attitudes to life.
Creating his portraits of surreal women with fantasy hair style, Nick works with acrylics, oils and mix media.

Beautiful house, located in the Spanish city of Salamanca, became the most famous in the world thanks to its unusual decoration. In particular, three hundred shells which decorate its facade. But in China’s Shandong Province on the island of Lingshan there is a whole building made entirely of shells.
According to a self-taught architect Xiao Yongsheng, he spent two years trying to turn his traditional Chinese home into a real marine wonder. Meanwhile, the total area of the outside of the building – 1500 sq.m. 58-year-old merman Xiao Yongsheng doesn’t regret about time and effort to decorate the house with seafood found on his own private beach.
One morning after a swimming, he saw an unusual shell, and then he got the idea of a wonderful design. During his work, he found a variety of seashells – diameter from a few millimeters to giant specimens weighing up to four pounds! This natural building material master used in different ways – for external walls, tiles, door handles and mosaics.
