My house is my soul. Painting by Grigory Ivanov
According to the artist, in this hard world, it is difficult to find Good. Besides, probably Good can be found only in art, if it brings light, of course. Simple pleasures, pure souls live in the lyrical works of Russian painter Grigory Ivanov. He paints something, that you begin to understand what art is necessary for, in our time of alarms and bustle. Painting style of Grigory Ivanov is close to primitivism and children’s drawings. The paintings also remind illustrations of legends, fairy tales, and myths.
Born March 28, 1952 in Khabarovsk, Grigory Ivanov studied at Minsk Art School from 1967 to 1971. And in 1976 he graduated from Belarusian Theatre and Art Institute. Since 1989 – member of the Artists’ Union of Belarus. His manner of painting is interesting – on the plane canvas appears contour of drawing of two or three forms (humans, animals, and others.) Then each figure and ground are covered with monotonous layer of paint (sometimes with hues). Small items usually stand out. As a result, the picture for a very small number of forms give the impression of living and multi-colored.
