American landscape painter Ford Smith was born and raised in Japan. His father was an Air Force serviceman based in Japanese village. He started painting at an early age under the guidance of an elderly Japanese painter. Some years later the future artist’s family moved back to the United States. Ford Smith studied painting at the University of Mississippi. After graduation he became interested in photography. In the late 70’s and 80’s Atlanta he was a well-known fashion photographer. Smith realized his natural talent for painting in the 90’s. His sense of nature – startling color combinations and mesmerizing horizons, featuring the optimistic philosophy of life and Asian aesthetic developed in his childhood. Despite his photography background, Ford Smith never paints from a photograph.

Thailand based young mixed media artist Uttaporn Nimmalaikaew has come up with a completely new technology to create three-dimensional images. In particular, the paintings look like a hologram but in fact, it is a painting on 5 layers of netting. Noteworthy, used for artistic purposes, this technology can encourage scientists to new inventions in the future.
Meanwhile, in order to create a portrait, alongside with oils the artist uses several layers of transparent fabric, strings, woods, mesh and thread. Due to the fact that the image is on several layers of fabric, depending on the angle of view, it looks as if alive.
Uttaporn Nimmalaikaew has won numerous awards from international art sphere and has just received the title “Artist of Distinction” from the National Exhibition of Art.

Talented Danish artist Johan Laurentz Jensen (8 March 1800 – 26 March 1856) specialized in painting flowers. His floral arrangements have decorative and symbolic value. Flowers bouquets by Jensen are usually located in a vase standing on a tray. Dark neutral background helped to emphasize the colorful tones. Roses were often the main subject, sometimes depicted with other exotic flowers and fruits, sometimes even birds. Jensen mastered the art of transmitting the beauty of nature. His paintings are characterized by richness in color and variety. Some of them depict flowers lying on a table or in a basket, perhaps strung together in a wreath.

Inspired by the poem of Mikhail Lermontov ‘Pine’ (1841), Russian artist Ivan Shishkin created his painting “In the northern wilderness” in 1891. Here is my translation of the poem:

In the northern wilderness stands alone
On the bare top of a mountain – a pine,
Asleep, it’s swaying, and loosing snow
In which it dressed like in mantle.

And it dreams of that far away desert,
In the region where the sun rises,
One and sad on the hot cliff
Beautiful palm tree grows.
