Chinese watercolorist Guan Weixing
Born in Dunhua County, Jilin Province, in 1940, Guan Weixing is a talented Chinese artist. In 1962 he graduated from Luxun Fine Arts Academy. Elegant watercolors by Guan Weixing appeared in numerous publications. Also, exhibited in Beijing, numerous national and international art exhibitions – in America, Japan, France and others. Art works by Chinese influential watercolorist Guan Weixing (“First snow”) won gold medal at International Watercolor Exhibition in USA. The book “Memories of Peking: South Side Stories”, containing more than 80 illustrations by the artist won International Best Illustration Award in 1992, 1993 and 1994.
Highly praised, Guan became the only member from Asia to join the world famous watercolor delegation of ten top watercolorists. Meanwhile, in 1996 Guan entered “Chinese Watercolor Exhibition” held in Tunis, invited to give lectures in fine arts academy and made TV specials.
In 2005, Guan Weixing had a solo exhibition in New York, Houston and Greensboro in 2005 and 2007, interviewed at the local TV and radio station. In addition, Guan Weixing became honored member of American National Watercolor Society.
At present Guan Weixing is a director of China Fine Arts Association, vice president of Chinese Watercolor Association, juror of National Watercolor Exhibition, and titled national-level master of fine arts.
