Gothic portrait of a woman. Ink drawing by Stoke Newington based English artist Dan Hillier
English artist Dan Hillier To the question where the ideas for surrealism come from, we believe can only be two answers: from the inner and outer world. And the third world, born at the junction of the Worlds, due skill, is no less real than the first two. Heir to the ideas of the surrealist Max Ernst, Hillier creates stunning illustrations, based on his knowledge of biology, anatomy and Victorian prints mixing them into fantasy portraits. Ink, dip-nib pen, pencil and hard work – the main components of his art. Hillier has been working as a full-time artist since 2006. Artworks by Stoke Newington based artist Hillier were exhibited in such galleries as Saatchi Gallery in London, numerous galleries in France, the USA and Italy. Tattoo lovers often use his human-animal hybrids drawings as thumbnails for images on their body.
