It took landscape designers and artists half a million of dahlias to create a beautiful and colorful parade in a small town of Selestat, in Alsace in north-eastern France. That’s how many flower heads they used to build twelve sculptures, driven on special platforms through the streets of Selestat on August 9.
Actually, on this day there are two parades – evening and night, with live music and fireworks. Celebration continues the next day, Sunday. Platform with flower sculptures are arranged in the streets and squares for residents and visitors to look and take pictures. Throughout the city organized fairs and folk festivals, street performances, everything is just devoted to flowers.
Migratory birds, storks communicate quietly because they can not sing or scream. They fly hovering, extending motionless wings, using hot air streams to support their long migration. Symbol of Alsace for a long time, according to legend, they bring the baby in a towel at the end of their beaks. Back in the spring, they herald the rebirth of nature.

The oriental in origin, the kite was probably born in China. According to legend, the hat of a Chinese farmer blown away inspired the manufacture of the first kite. True worship in China, kites often depict various animals, monsters and strange fish, including a dragon whose tail waving in the wind.

The preparations for the holiday begin long before the suburban gardens start blooming. When the motto of the festival and the theme songs are approved, artists create drawings and sketches on a scale of 1:20, in which the masters – tinsmiths, carpenters, painters – make frames. For ready-made frames tensioned wire mesh and paper “flower map”, which tells you how to place the flowers of a particular color.
A week before the festival volunteers begin collecting and sorting flowers. Finally, the day before the parade begins marathon – more than 400 people, one after another, until the morning fix flowers. Naturally, each composition have sponsors – banks and local companies, whose names are listed in the program of the festival.
