Sushi art by Takayo Kiyota

Sushi art by Takayo Kiyota
A couple. Sushi art by Japanese food artist Takayo Kiyota

Sushi art by Takayo Kiyota
Tokyo based food artist Takayo Kiyota traditionally uses Makizushi rolled sushi for her art. Rolls coming out of the hands of Kiyota – real art objects, not just sushi. Externally huge cylindrical roll wrapped in seaweed, and doesn’t differ from traditional sushi, except for the size. However, with the first slice the illusion of usual sushi disappears – the customer sees a stunning food painting. The themes of edible pictures vary from classical paintings, such as iconic “Scream” by Edvard Munch to modern life stories and characters.
Takayo herself or Tama-chan, says that creating such rolls is easy. The main difficulty lies in the transfer of facial expressions of heroes of snacks. The fact that under the influence of a knife pattern may change and should be treated with great care when cutting rolls, not to spoil the picture.

Pegasus glass sculpture by Murano glass artists

Murano glass art is made in Italian town of Murano, on the remote island 1.5 kilometers from Venice. There numerous glass factories and shops are focused on the manufacture of fantastic beauty. Unique Murano products (Antica Murina) are handmade, known since the 10th century and every glass-creation is unique and exclusive. The price may vary from a few euros to hundreds thousands (works of art), and they are all unique. Murano glass – one of the most desirable gifts from Italy, although, in principle, to buy products made from Murano glass is possible in many parts of the world. Murano glass-makers still insist that authentic Murano glass is fabricated only in Murano.

Tillya tepe means Golden Hill, an archaeological site in Afghanistan near Sheberghan, surveyed in 1979 by a Soviet-Afghan mission of archaeologists led by Victor Sarianidi. The hoard contained about 20,000 gold ornaments found in six graves (five women and one man) with extremely rich jewelry art pieces, dated to around the 1st century BC. Several thousand pieces of recovered fine jewelry were made of gold, turquoise, lapis-lazuli. The ornaments included coins, necklaces, belts, medallions and crowns.

Some of the finds are a part of the traveling exhibition titled “Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures From the National Museum, Kabul”, first displayed in 2006 in France’s Musee Guimet in Paris, in Washington, D.C. from May 25th to Sept. 7th, 2008; and from Oct. 24th, 2008 to Jan. 25th, 2009 the collection was at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.

Sloth Facebook friends by Hector Janse van Rensburg

Hector Janse van Rensburg is a 20 year old pop artist from the United Kingdom. He became famous for his caricature drawings of random people from Facebook, as sloths. Hector himself calls his art “Shitty Watercolor”, and it seems even Mark Zuckerberg himself enjoys the creativity of a young British artist. Hector confesses that he started doing the paintings out of boredom. For those who believe him to be none other than the illustrator Quentin Blake (once Hector counted over 50 messages telling him this in a single day), he says – No, unfortunately, I am not Quentin Blake. The comparison between his work and that of Quentin Blake is definitely not something to be annoyed about. Some people criticize his art, others adore – Sloth me, please!
