Endless Gathering Lull, 2008, metal leaf, corrosive, ink and pencil on paper. Gold Drawing by Sarah A. Smith
American artist Sarah A. Smith graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University, BFA in 1991. She is the author of the series “Golden drawings». Images made on conventional metal plates, but they look precious. Sarah A. Smith uses a unique technique for creating shimmering, dynamic graphics that are just full of movement and texture. To create her drawings Sarah Smith uses special chemicals that literally “eat away” sheet of metal, leaving the images on the paper surface. In nature, decomposition processes occur for hundreds of years, the artist aims to show that human waste has polluted our planet for many centuries to come.
Eagle Vs. Wolf. Gold Drawing by Sarah A. Smith
“Oxidation symbolizes pollution, destruction, modification of elements over time”, – says the artist. The artist gets inspiration from nature drawing birds and animals. The material has been selected not by chance: Gold – symbol of material wealth, and many destroy the environment because of its value. Enchanting images of animals shining with gold, arising from eddies appear to flicker, and remind us that the main treasure is nature.
