Hyperrealistic Rainscapes by Elizabeth Patterson
American artist Patterson received specialized education in the late seventies of the last century. She was a graduate of the College of Art and Design in her native Minneapolis. For a long time, Elizabeth worked as an illustrator, hoping to completely switch to painting. According to the artist, the idea could not turn into reality for a long time. However, since 2001, the year of her hyper realistic paintings found approval with the public and critics. The appearance of a series of paintings entitled «Rainscapes» finally opened to the world the true master of fine arts.
To achieve such a remarkable accuracy in “rainy” paintings, Elizabeth photographs her most impressive moments, and then prints out the pictures and compiles a few frames into one powerful image. Paintings of the artist, copied from photographs are so realistic that unwittingly appear to us as abstract paintings of the whole world.
“Rainscapes” series was born of my attempts to watch the patterns created by water and nightlight on my windshield during a rainstorm. A few drops turned into rivulets, blurring my vision. Then the wipers would completely change the image. It was a mesmerizing display of all the elements that stimulate my imagination: an emotional quality suggested by water, a solitary vantage point for the artist and constantly shifting colors and distances in the landscapes. I started shooting reference photos and am currently still mid-experiment with that imagery”.
