Talented miniaturist artist Lorraine Loots lives in Cape Town, South Africa. On 1 January 2013 she launched her project “365 Postcards for Ants” aiming to create one miniature painting a day during a year. Every day, Lorraine painted any object: a book, a toy, plant, an animal, a bird, etc. and posted the completed picture online. 365 Astonishly detailed miniature painting which could easily be mistaken for photographs appeared at the exhibition in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa in January 2014.
According to Loots, she started her miniature watercolor painting while studying at the School of Business “Business Acumen for Artists. As she admits – to avoid creative stagnation. The pages she worked on are about 10 x 10 cm, and the images themselves vary from 8mm to 30mm high. When people asked “what would you do with something that small?”, she used to say they were made for ants.
