With an emphasis on light and perspective, installations by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson transform the plane that allows the viewer to experience the illusion of supernatural environment. The interstitial space in the Museum of Art in Seoul, features “Stairs of Gravity”. Composed of luminous spheres attached to the ceiling, all the space – bathed in yellow light, like the sun. Something otherworldly seen in lamps and mirrors on the ceiling, the visitor gets the impression of floating in space, among celestial bodies. Mirrors have essential place in the magic containing in the works of Eliasson. Traditionally, Mirrors defy the usual relation of man and space, recalling our tiny place in the vast universe.
Born in 1967, Olafur Eliasson grew up in Iceland and Denmark. In 1995 he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and moved to Berlin, where he founded Studio Olafur Eliasson. The art studio now has employed about seventy-five craftsmen, architects, programmers, art historians. Studio Olafur Eliasson has had numerous major exhibitions and projects around the world. In particular, Venice Biennale, Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Berlin, Sao Paulo, etc.
